Redding Lawyers Use Snapchat to Convey Distracted Driving Message to High Schools
“Don’t Snap and Drive” Snapchat Filters appear on Shasta, Enterprise, and Foothill Campuses
REDDING, Calif. — Over 2,000 students at Shasta, Enterprise, and Foothill high schools have viewed a specially created Snapchat filter that carries a distracted driving awareness message. On the heels of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, the law firm Reiner, Slaughter, McCartney & Frankel is using an innovative approach to communicate the importance of distraction-free driving to high school students.
Starting April 28th and for the next two weeks, a Snapchat filter will be available on the campuses of Shasta, Enterprise, and Foothill High Schools. On each campus, students will find their own customized filter with school colors and a message that says “Shasta Wolves Don’t Snap and Drive,” for example.
According to a survey conducted by the National Safety Council, more than 47 percent of high school aged teens use Snapchat while driving. More than 50,000 Snapchat user accounts have been registered in Shasta County. A majority of these users are ages 15-22.
“In the most recent study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Distracted Driving claimed the lives of 3,477 Americans in a single year. We hope that our message can reach those most at risk for distracted driving on a platform they know and use on a regular basis” said April Stratte, an Attorney at Reiner, Slaughter, McCartney & Frankel Law Offices.
Reiner, Slaughter, McCartney & Frankel Law Offices has made traffic safety awareness a marketing priority for several years. In 2013 and 2014, the law firm was recognized by the Shasta County Public Health Advisory Board for its creation of a large scale booster seat giveaway and a “Don’t Drive Intexticated” pledge campaign, in which 4,000 local area high school students participated.
